Face of Christ

Unknown artist

This manuscript was probably intended for novices in a Netherlandish Augustinian cloister. An engraving of the face of Christ has been pasted on a page that had been deliberately left blank. The type of Christ in the – until now – unknown print strongly resembles painted versions by Flemish masters, such as Van der Weyden, Memling, and Bouts.
