Parchment folio from a Gospel book written and illuminated c. 1536 in the Suynik' province of Armenia for Esayi the 'great vardapet' (abbot). On the recto, the Last Judgement is presented in two registers with the twelve apostles sitting above, while angels weigh the souls of the deceased below. Demons attempt to tip the scales down. On the verso is the opening to the Letter of Eusebius, presented in an architectural frame and illuminated in the heading by a portrait of Eusebius surrounded by floral scrolls.
