Colour woodblock print album, 'Pictures of women in the scenery of 53 stations' (Gojūsan tsugi keshiki iri onna ga) by Utagawa Kunisada, published by Sanoya Kihei and Moriya Jihei in Edo(modern Tokyo), Japan, between 1833 and 1836. This series of prints by Utagawa Kunisada presents beauties against the landscape of the Tōkaidō highway. Designs from Utagawa Hiroshige’s contemporary Tōkaidō series (the Hōeidō Tōkaidō) provide the backdrop for 43 of Kunisada’s 56 prints. In each, Kunisada changes the format of the composition from landscape to portrait and adds a beautiful woman. The full series has been mounted in a concertina album with printed title slip.
