Indies of Sorsogon, [1789 and 1794]

Summary: Portrait of a young Indian from Sorsogon, represented in front and back position. Its clothing is formed by a skirt to the feet, with horizontal stripes, on which falls a loose blouse, long sleeve and round neckline. Above it looks a kind of scarf. It is carriageway and its neck is adorned with a choker and a pendant. In the background, sketched, the volcano of Mayón, located on the island of Luzón (Philippines). Drawing made during the Malaspina expedition, which took place between 1789 and 1794. Commander Alejandro Malaspina lead the expedition organized by the Spanish crown to tour his American possessions, according to a plan presented by the sailor himself. The material gathered is scattered in different institutions of Spain, England, Argentina and Chile. It is attributed to the Italian artist Juan Ravenet, in charge of drawing the portraits of types and customs.
