So far the month of March has been unusually cool with temperatures several degrees below the normal for the time of year. One of the places in Israel to beat the unseasonably cool weather is the Red Sea resort of Eilat. This winter Eilat has only registered 13.6mm of rain, which is less than half of the amount the town usually receives in the rainy season. Thousands of Israeli and foreign tourists now flock to Eilat for allost guaranteed winter sunshine, they have no complaints concerning the poor rainfall. The rest of Israel has had a bountiful winter from the point of view of rainfall. Nearly every part of the country has received, up until new, its average rainfall or more with still about a month left when there can be more precipitation. The Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee), Israel's rain sweet water lake, is only 23 cis from its maximus permitted height. The water authority maintains the present level by pumping off water into the country's reservoirs and opening the southern dam to allow water to flow into the Dead Sea. As the chance for more rain lessens the authority will gently allow the lake to reach its maximus level as snow melts from the Hermon and finds its way into the Kinneret basin. The depleted coastal aquifers have also shown much improvement after many years of being overdrawn.
