This year the Jewish National Fund, which is responsible for the co-ordinating the planting of trees over the whole of Israel, will try and complete a ring of trees around the Negev city of 8eersheva. Already about 7000 dunams of trees have been planted. One particular technique is planting trees in clusters in depressions in the ground. The idea of the depressions is to collect the limited rainfall In the desert and allow the water to slowly filter down among the trees. Photo shows: a tree cluster in the Yattir forest near Beersheva.
