Lettering: Mr. Edwd Bright late of Maldon in Essex. He was an eminent shop keeper of that town, & suppos'd to have been the largest man in Europe. He weighed 5fe:1q:21tt. Horsemans weight. He died Novbr.10th: 1750. And left a widow big with the sixth child his height was above 5 foot nine inches, & his body was of astonishing bulk, his legs was biger than a midling man's body, & though so great a weight & bulk surprisingly active. N.B. A wager was held that seven midling men at the age of 21 could not be button'd within his waistcoat, which with much ease was done without breaking a stitch or straining a button. This & the metzotint one, are only from an original painting, which was done six weeks before he died, all other prints of him are feticious, without authority.
