Woman Bathing with her Feet in a Brook

We espy this woman, veiled in shadow and her face averted, during a seemingly private moment. But is she situated indoors or outdoors? She could be seated on a chair, yet there is foliage in the background and her feet seem to be submerged in water. And who does she represent? Rembrandt seems to have been working instinctually, without any clear subject or setting in mind.
