Portrait of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. / The image is very faint. The portrait was comissioned by Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom (1819-61). Stamped gold inscription on top of case: P. A. FEB. 1842. This is a rare example of a dated case. The case opens along the shorter side. The photographer was William Constable, 1783 - 1861, who set up a studio in Brighton where this royal portrait was taken when the Royal family was in residence at the Pavilion in March 1842
