Full length portrait of a young boy (image mostly removed by a previous cleaning treatment). He wears shoes, trousers, jacket and hat. He stands with his head down and his hands in his pockets. He stands next to a door with a lock mechanism. The rest of the scene's details are obscured. Plate set in a black jappaned frame with grey metal sight edge. Small metal suspension eyelet attached to decorative black metal hanging mechanism in the shape of leaves and acorn (acorn mount).

Lower half only of case, breaking apart and glass loose within it. Fragile. There is a complex design based on an oval on the reverse of the case, of which the leather is stained and worn.

Three quarter length portrait of a seated man, facing the camera. His left arm is resting on a cloth-covered table. He wears a dark jacket, dark waistcoat with chain, white shirt, dark cravat, paler trousers. He has a beard covering the lower part of the jaw.. A plain wooden chair back is just visible. The case is ornate, embossed on both front and back is an urn containing fruit and flowers surrounded by strapwork, scrolling foliate decoration and gilt border. The velvet cushion is decoratively impressed; a central floral motif with scrolling foliate and floral border.
