Nagasena and Panthaka, two of the sixteen disciples of the Buddha, or Arhats (Sravakas), enlightened beings of Buddhism. Nagasena is famous for the 'hear no evil' maxim and the discussion between himself and the Indo-Greek King Menander (Milinda) on a wide range of Buddhists beliefs

Lettering: Above the painting is an inscription in rañjani script: Om ma.ni padme hum hri.h. There is also a long inscription at the back of the thanka written into the outlines of a stupa.
