Ever since the State of Israel's establishement in 1948, she has been in state of war with the neighnour that shared more of Israel's norder than any other country - Jordan. That state of war ended with the Washinton Declaration of 25 July 1994 and finally put into effect on the ground, 8 August 19994, in the Arava. There, Israel PM Yitzhak rabin and Jordan's Crown Prince Hassan opened the first border crossing between the two countries 6 km north of Eilat, in the presence of USA Secretary of State Christipher, Israel For.
