Windmill, Enisala, Tulcea, Dobrogea. Enisala is a village in Sarichioi village the largest commune in Tulcea County, Dobrogea, Romania. Dobrogea is also referred to as “the land of the winds,” it is in the past also the land of the windmills. The image teaches us an aspect of folk architecture from 1964. The investigation was part of a project carried out in several regions of the country. Along with the new constructions we also investigated old monuments such as the mill in the picture that belongs to the medium type of mills, with quadrilateral plan and two overlapping rooms: down is the mill house, the warehouse for sacks, shutters and various tools and on the floor with “balcony” is the mill mechanism. The construction rises on the foundation of stone on which is placed “sled” which allows the mill to be rotated in order to capture wind energy. The entire gear rests on the vertical central axis made of solid oak wood that is strongly fixed in the ground and the skeleton of the mill is also made of wood. The mill mechanism is set in motion through the six wings, which swirl the central shaft, the toothed wheel and then the stones.
