Parchment folio from a Book of Hours written and illuminated between 1485 and 1490 in the Rouen workshop of the Master of the Echevinage, in collaboration with artist workshops in Tours. This illumination is attributed to a follower of Jean Fouquet. The painting depicts Mary kneeling in prayer before a seated Jesus who holds an open book. A group of men are depicted in conversation in the background. The painting introduces the five prayers of St John the Evangelist to the Virgin, announced as Five Sorrows of the Virgin. The rubric on the recto reads, 'Cy ensuivent les cinq douleurs nostre dame contenants cinq resquestes'.
