This elegant lady is portrayed before a landscape with the conversion of Saint Hubert. One day, when pursuing a stag, Hubert discovered a crucifix between the animal’s antlers; he converted to Christianity, to which he devoted the rest of his life. He was venerated as the patron saint of hunters. The link between the sitter and this story is unclear.
