POST MEDIEVAL PADLOCK

A miniature cast copper-alloy padlock of post-medieval/modern date. The object is broadly circular in form with two protuding lugs at the top to take the bar; the bar is missing. This latter may have been made of iron given the orange corrosion product found at the lugs. Longitudinally central on both faces is a raised rectangular field. This is decorated on both faces with three longitudinal grooves. Either side on both faces is a punched ring-and-dot motif formed of a depressed dot and raised ring all within a circular field. This decorative form is found on other post-medieval padlocks recorded on this database, e.g. SF-A085B7. As such the object is a model, as it lacks a mechanism. On other padlocks the rectangular ridge would have covered a keyhole.
