500
A fragment of a cast copper alloy and gilded object, probably part of a miniature square-headed brooch of Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) date (c. AD 500 – c. AD 600). Length: 8.6mm; width: 7.5mm and 1.9mm thick. Weight: 0.49g.This is probably the lower part of the foot of a miniature square-headed brooch. At the front moulded decoration is in the form of a raised central sub-square shape enclosed by a raised square frame. The rear face is flat and pitted due to corrosion. Traces of gilding are visible at the front only. There is no evidence for burning or melting.
