Copper alloy vessel fragment. Cast cauldron leg, of oval form, flat-backed with a low central longitudinal ridge on its outer side as used. One side of the leg has been chipped. Sooting traces remain on both sides. This might be taken as part of a toy or miniature kitchen vessel with a mass between a fifth and a tenth of a full-sized version if not for this evidence for recurrent use on a hearth, though of course a miniature vessel might be used in the same setting as its larger prototypes, and a child might 'help' her mother at the fireside. Suggested date: Medieval, 1200-1350.Length: 23.9mm, Width: 24.9mm, Thickness: 6.4mm, Weight: 9.50gms.
