A Medieval brooch, consisting of a hoop of twisted wire. The pin is missing, but a small part of the pin attachment survives. Simple brooches of twisted wire survive in reasonably large numbers from the Middle Ages. They exist in a variety of sizes from miniature to large. This example falls into the mid-range of known sizes.The brooch is silver-gilt and dates from the thirteenth century.Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
