A lead alloy fragment of a toy gun, probably dating from the nineteenth century. The surviving fragment is the butt of the gun. Only a piece 46.3mm long, 23.8mm wide and 10.1mm thick survives. It is sub-rectangular and curved in plan and decorated with five raised mouldings forming an undulating surface. On one face, the three inner mouldings survive well enough to show that they were decorated with a twisting rope like pattern. There is a circular hole in the centre of the broken end. This toy gun would probably have been a working miniature version of the real thing. A similar one is illustrated on page 68 of “Detector Finds 5” by Bailey (2002).
