In his article Winther is describing his direct positive on paper process, the first of his photographic process inventions. It was very similar to Bayard's paper based direct positive process which had been announced recently and therefore the events prompted him to publish this article and defend his priority as inventor. His photographic process as well as two other were finally published in his books in 1845 (one in Norwegian and in one German).
