Oinone was in Greek mythology the first wife of Paris. Oinone was a mountain nymph at Mount Ida in Frygien, a mountain associated with the mother goddess Kybele, her father being the river god Kebren. Paris fell in love with her when she was still a shepherd at Mount Ida. They married and had their son Korythos. When Paris abandoned her to return to Troy and sail over the Aegean Sea to kidnap Sparta’s queen, the caring Helena, she anticipated in a vision the Trojan War In retaliation for Paris, she sent Korythos to the Greeks to lead them. Other versions tell us that she used Korythos to create incompatibility between Paris and Helena, but then Paris did not recognize his own son, he killed him. When Paris was fatally wounded by Filktete’s arrow, he asked Oinone all of him, but she refused and Paris died. Out of grief and guilt, she threw herself on his death.
