Dürer made the copper engraving “Ecce homo” in 1512 as part of his long-made copper engraving passion. After the mocking of Christ, Pilate presents the scourged to the Jewish people. Dürer shows him elevated by steps, tied up next to Pilate, the insignia of mocking on the bowed body. In the background, crosses point to what is happening. The rich reception of the engraving is an expression of artistic appreciation.
