The artist copied Dürer’s engraving “Die Geißelung” from 1512, which belongs to the copper engraving passion that has been made over years, reduced in size and from the opposite side. At the center of a dark and windowless space is the exposed Christ, whose arms are tied around the Geißelsäule. Two torturers hit him with a rod and a whip, but he endures his torments in a uniform manner. In the background, some men attend the events as spectators. Neither does a monogram refer to Dürer as the spiritual creator of the image idea nor to the actual artist and also a dating is missing. The monogram pannel is empty. Already Heller writes in his publication of 1827: "Bey den zweyten AbBereits is on the edge to the right: Marco Sadeler excudit."(Heller Dürer 1827 II.362,243)
