The sketchy leaf shows the crucified in the center, surrounded by few mourners, with the cross forming both the central axis and the upper end. The muscular, yet lifeless body of Mary and John is flanked by the desperately lowered Mary Magdalene. The background allows a view into the distance. Next to the crucified man, Englein hovers in the sky. Heller contributed the work of his publication Dürer, published in 1827, as he considered it a follow-up to an unfinished crucifixion scene Dürer. In addition, he referred to the existence of three conditions: without signs Dürer, with Dürer monogram, with completed dress Mary and skull (cf. Heller Dürer 1827 II.838,2250).
