Die Handwaschung des Pilatus

The same copy was made after Dürer’s engraving “Die Handwaschung des Pilate” from 1512, part of the copper engraving Passion, which was made over years. Like the original, Pilate sits in the foreground and washes his hands into innocence. He is supported by two servants. Behind the multi-stage construction on which the scene takes place, the thorn-crowned Christ is lead away by two henchmen, one of whom turns. Above, the artist makes it possible to view the Golgotha Hill over numerous roofs. The main events are decentered. Not the main figures, but a fashionably staggered servant who pours water into the bowl kneels in the center of the leaf.
