The Prodigal Son

At 1496 Dürer stabbed the parable of the prodigal son and shows the protagonist at the turning point of the story. Unlike the biblical text, he moves the scene to a farm. Interception of dilapidated buildings is a desolate place of hope with peasant equipment, which is animated by all kinds of animals. In the foreground, between the pigs to be kept at the feeding trough, the prodigal son kneels in front of a bunch of misses. While his hands are narrowly interlaced and his gaze roams in the distance, he has already angled the left leg to rise. Dürer draws him in the open, shortly before returning to his father’s house. The rich reception of the engraving is an expression of artistic appreciation.
