The artist copied Dürer’s brush drawing “Head of an apostle with cap” (now Vienna, Albertina, Inv.-Nr. 3111, cf. Heller Dürer 1827 II.112.90) from the original page. It shows the chest of a bearded old, whose head is covered by a cap, with a lowered view. Dürer’s design of figures was later to be integrated into the Heller-Altar. The Bamberg collector Heller included the engraving of copper under the heading “After Dürer 's Paintings and Drawings” in his 1827 published Dürer publication (cf. Heller Dürer 1827 II.919,2533).
