Das tanzende Bauernpaar

At the age of 12, according to Nagler, the Flemish artist Hieronymus Wierix, decades after Dürer’s death, made an original copy of his 1514 made copper engraving “Das tanzende Im.” In doing so, he clearly oriented himself towards the template. A peasant woman and a peasant, both of strong shape, dance dynamically a folk dance, whereby they fill out the picture almost completely. Dating and monogram are reminiscent of Dürer as the spiritual creator of the image idea, while the age indication characteristic of the Wierix brothers refers to the actual artist and the time of origin. Mauquoy-Hendrickx mentions only one condition (see Mauquoy-Hendrickx II.311,1707).
