At the center of the engraving, the already crucified Christ sits on a stone with his arms crossed in front of his chest. Hostage, rod, crown of thorns and its deep wounds point to the passage process, while a arched window opens the viewer’s view into the distance. Underneath is Mary and looks praying towards the Savior. Below, Dürer’s sign is integrated into the representation, arguably one reason why Heller included the engraving under the heading “After Dürer 's Paintings and Drawings” in his publication Dürer, published in 1827. In this he also explained the existence of deductions with different texts below, of which the older ones deceive the coat of arms of the Nuremberg patrician Gugel family and the younger ones are with German text with the Nuremberg publisher Paul Fürst eschienen (cf. Heller Dürer 1827 II.843.2260)
