Unknown artist
The artist copied Dürer’s wooden cut “Maria im Rund über die Felsenlandschaft” (“Maria im Rund über die Felsenlandschaft”), designed around 1514, from the opposite side. Although he also translated the subject into the technique of etching, the orientation to the template can be clearly seen. In a roundel framed several times, the artist shows Mary sitting on a lawn bench with the wrapped Jesus boy. Two angels are hovering above her, who are about to put a crown on her head. Even with the original Dürer, the unconventionality of the picture combination, under the roundel a rock landscape is buried in the actually right-angled print form, often leading to the main image being cut off from the landscape (cf. Heller Dürer 1827, II.659). At the bottom right, the monogram refers to Dürer as the spiritual creator of the image idea.
