Satyr and Nymph (The Satyr Family)

The artist copied Dürer’s engraving “Satyr und Nymphe (Die Satyrfamilie)” in 1505 in the technique of etching. In doing so, he clearly oriented himself towards the template. A family of Satyrs finds its peace in the midst of tremendous and dense trees of a forest. Satyr, who is crowned with laurels and is a boulder, plays Schalmei for a woman who sits naked on an animal skin lying on the ground and, leaning against a tree, looks at the newborn on her lap. The monogram refers to Dürer as the spiritual creator of the image idea, while there is no indication of the actual artist and the time of creation. Heller writes in 1827: "Bey the first impressions are on the top right of the tree trunk: No. 12. You also have a bridge of this leaf."(Heller Dürer 1827 II.465,822)
