Saint George Monastery in Suceava is the only UNESCO monument in Romania. The church of the monastery captures the roof with colored tiles, a true mark of the architectural style Austro-Hungarian Secession. The church was founded by the voivode Bogdan III, the son of Stephen the Great, in 1514. Bogdan Voda did not get to see this church finished in such a way that the construction of the church was continued by his son, Stefănița, during which he was also ordained, in 1522, dedicated to Saint George. The exterior painting of the church was executed in the time of Petru Rareș (1532-1534), another son of Stefan cel Mare. In 1589, ruler Petru Şchiopu built the porch. Until 1677, the metropolis of Moldova had its headquarters here, after which it moved to Iasi.
